Dr Cécile Martinat is Director of Research at INSERM, and head of the Inserm unit UMR861 in  the Institute of Stem Cells for the Treatment and Study of Monogenic Diseases (I-Stem) since 2015. She Earned a Ph.D. in virology from the Institut Pasteur in 2001. Sheconducted Postdoctoral studies at Columbia University in New York from 2001 to 2005, focusing on human embryonic stem cells. Expert in the study of neuromuscular diseases, such as Steinert's disease and spinal muscular atrophy, utilizing human pluripotent stem cells to develop therapeutic strategies. 

She served as the President of the French Society for Stem Cell Research (FSSCR) from 2016. She is co-author of several outstanding publications cited over 4,276 times, with a h-index of 35. Since 2023, she is the Inserm co-pilot of the national program PEPR Biotherapy/ Bioproduction.
